Support young people with their financial health

Read our financial health article to explore why teaching financial health is important and how The King's Trust can support you to do this.

What is financial health?

Financial health refers to the state of someone's finances.

The term financial health can cover a variety of topics such as:

  • Spending habits

  • Budgeting

  • Savings

  • Expenditures

  • Tracking finances

  • As well as other areas of finance.

Like other areas related to health, someone's financial health can change many times overtime.

Why is teaching financial health important?

According to reports only 44% of 11 - 17 year olds feel confident in managing their money and 61% of young adults to not recall receiving financial education at school.

We recognise that providing young people with the knowledge and skills to improve their financial health means they are more able to support and improve this element of their wellbeing.

At HSBC UK our purpose is to open up a world of opportunity.

In the UK that means helping people and businesses make the most of their money now and in the future. This includes working with organisations like The King’s Trust to build financial health across the communities that need the most support.  Working with The King’s Trust, we want to build young people’s knowledge, skills and attitudes towards money, helping them to make better decisions about money in the future.

How can the King's Trust support you?

To support you in delivering topics themed around money and finances we have a host of resources you can access and deliver as part of our Achieve network.

  • - this unit focuses on supporting young people in making healthy financial decisions today and in the future. This unit also explores how someone could get further help if they need it. The resources in this unit can support learners in generating evidence towards Learning Outcome 3 of the Managing Money unit.

  • - this unit focuses on supporting learners to understand some of the basic principles around personal money management. Throughout this unit, learners will be given the opportunity to gain knowledge on how to budget and how to plan their own personal spending, while looking at wage slips and bank statements.

  • Together these units can be used to create a bespoke learning journey for your learners whilst generating evidence towards our PDE qualification, if that is something your learners are working towards.
