Empowering young people across Wales with the new Skills Suite
From September 2027, the new Skills Suite - made up of Skills for Life, Skills for Work, and a Personal Project - will be available to 14 to 16-year-olds in Wales.
The King’s Trust Cymru is proud to be an awarding body for the Skills Suite and Personal Project Qualifications. Approved by Qualifications Wales, we can support you to deliver both as part of our flagship programme.

The Skills Suite
A dynamic qualification, available in Cymraeg and English, featuring 47+ engaging units across:
Skills for Work
Skills for Life
Skills for Life and Work (a combination of units across both qualifications)
Available from Entry Level to Level 2, the Skills Suite gives learners the flexibility to build the capabilities they need most, at a pace and level that suits them.
The Personal Project
A fully independent, learner-led project where young people explore a topic that inspires them. Available in Cymraeg and English from Entry Level to Level 2, it gives young people the chance to showcase their creativity, initiative and drive.

Skills Suite FAQs
PDE and Developing Resilience will still be offered for learners either side of the 14-16 age range. From September 2027, if you have learners that are 14-16, they can only do the new Skills Suite qualifications.
If you choose to support young people under 14 to work towards the Skills Suite qualifications, then submit them once they turn 14, you can do this.
The ‘run out’ period of PDE is 2 years to allow any young people within the 14-16 age bracket to complete that work, any submissions up until 31st August 2027 will be eligible for 14-16 year olds.
To use our delivery resource in the most efficient and impactful way, we focus our efforts in the areas with the greatest need, and volume of young people who need our support the most. Therefore our offer of support alongside the qualification may vary depending on where you are based, so get in touch to find out more.

Skills for Life and Work
‘Skills for Life’ and ‘Skills for Work’ can be delivered in tandem, whereas ‘Skills for Life and Work’ is one qualification and must be delivered in isolation.
Personal Project
Yes, The King’s Trust is an approved provider for The Skills Suite, which means Qualifications Wales has formally approved King’s Trust Qualifications to be used on publicly funded programmes for learners under 19.
Approved qualifications usually carry the highest level of confidence. Colleges will use them directly as standard entry requirements (e.g. Level 2 Approved Qualification in X).
The majority of learning resources will be available to download on the Education Hub from Autumn 2027.
A small number of ‘taster’ resources will be available in Autumn 2026 to give centres an idea of what will be available as part of the Achieve programme.
Learning resources for our other qualifications: PDE and Developing Resilience, are available to download on the Education Hub now.
Schemes of work for each unit, session plans and supporting resources, like PowerPoint presentations and activity sheets.
When an activity in a session has been designed to help learners meet the assessment criteria, this will be indicated in the session plan instructions.
As the new qualifications are portfolio-based, qualification activities will be designed to be creative and flexible to meet the needs of different learners.
No, it is entirely optional. You can use the learning resources, adapt them or create your own.
Remember, even if The King’s Trust learning resources are used, it is ultimately a centre’s responsibility to ensure all evidence produced meets the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
